Utilising rotary percussive action with a special assembly (Down The Hole Hammer) that has a piston which hammers against a bit with Tungsten Carbide Insert (TCI) Buttons.
The rapid piston cycle imparts a large amount of energy into the bit and the high stresses caused by the TCI buttons induce fracturing within the formation.
Predominantly driven by compressed air, although there are hydraulically powered (water hammers) available.
Not only does the compressed air or water provide the necessary energy required for drilling, it also carries the cuttings up and out of the borehole (see flushing)
DTH drilling is the quickest method of drilling in rock and when combined with special casing advancement (OVERBURDEN DRILLING) systems provides a highly flexible method of drilling.
Product Sections: DTH Hammers, DTH Bits, Overburden Drilling Sytems, Drill Pipe, Subs, Casing, Casing Systems, Lubricants, Drilling Fluids, Hand Tools.
