This involves the rotation of a drill bit, with rotary motion being generated by a mechanical unit and transmitted to the bit by means of a drill string.
Rotary drilling employs a wide range of equipment and techniques and is used a in variety of drilling applications such as blasting in mines and quarries, reinforcement of the ground by the injection of cement grouts (e.g. old mine workings), water wells, rock sampling for engineering analysis and so on.
Generally a more expensive method than Cable Tool Percussion Drilling it does, however, generate results quicker in most soil and rock types, offering distinct cost/benefit advantages.
